The earth is now prone to global warming. As a result there are drastic climatic changes and environmentalists are expressing concern over the earth’s future. Are you willing to contribute whatever little possible from your side to help protect the environment? Then you can consider making your home green. A green home is the current trend in
So what is a green home? How is it built? Are the construction materials same as those used for other traditional homes? Green homes are built using recyclable and reusable materials in home construction. The home is expected to use less energy and release less waste into the environment. A green home is said to have a minimum effectiveness of 30% as it uses 30% less energy and generates 30% less waste, when compared to regular homes. The construction costs of environment friendly green homes has never been much lower with governments offering affordable tax credits on home construction to meet the green standards.
In this article I will substantiate how green homes are environmental friendly in reducing energy consumption and waste production.
· A large home increases the energy consumption and waste released, causing a heavy damage to the environment. Green homes are much smaller than the traditional homes and thus minimize the energy utilization and waste generation. These homes are best suited for single families.
· The green homes have energy efficient windows, kitchen appliances and incandescent lightening that cut down on the energy consumption for heating and lighting.
· The paints, insulation and building materials used are non toxic. Such non toxic materials require less energy in their production. The organic paints used protect the environment from harmful chemicals.
· Appliances used in green homes run on solar energy or electricity generated by wind energy.
· The amount of water used by a green home is reduced by Implementing rain water harvesting mechanisms for using rain water for all washing and cleaning purposes.
Green homes are constructed with the aim of using all the energy and resources available in the environment. The architecture is so planned that most of the daylight, up to 75%, is utilized in those areas of the home commonly occupied during the day. Solar energy and wind energy are the main sources of power generation. Trees and plants are well maintained around the home to provide fresh oxygen and keep the home cool.
